Sadly the family of Nancy Laktin of Castlegar wishes to announce her passing at Rosewood Village in Trail on Friday, September 20, 2013, blessed with 90 years of life.

Nancy was born in Brilliant on May 10, 1923 to parents Pearl and Andrew Obedkoff. At 3 years of age, Nancy and family moved to Raspberry, where she lived till she got married. In 1946, she met and married John Laktin and they moved to Grand Forks where they ran a combination grocery store and garage on the banks of the Kettle River. That same year the Kettle River flooded them out and they came back to the Kootenays. They settled in Kinnaird and built a garage, Belford Motors, in front of where the Super 8 Hotel is now. Nancy worked along-side John at the garage until the business increased to where more help was hired. The family was blessed with a daughter and shortly after a son, and Nancy became a stay-at-home mom. She grew large gardens and she loved sewing, knitting and crocheting. She was a kind and gentle soul and always tried to live by the tenets of her faith.

In 1992, Nancy’s beloved husband John passed away. Though it was difficult, she still lived in and looked after the family home. Even well into her later years, she was very independent, enjoyed driving her car and shopping and managed her own affairs. In 2009, she was totally devastated by the death of her daughter Laurie. Towards the end of her life, she moved to Rosewood Village where she had care, after a fall.

She was predeceased by her loving husband John, younger brother Andy, her beloved daughter Laurie and her older sister Polly.

Left to mourn her loss is her son Wayne and his partner Debbie Evin-Smith, her grandson James Pickett, her son-in-law Ed Pickett, brother Peter and his wife Margaret, 4 nieces, 1 nephew and other extended family and friends.

A private Funeral Service was officiated by Reverend Cynthia Pelletier at Castlegar Funeral Chapel on Friday, September 27, 2013 followed by interment in Park Memorial Cemetery.

Arrangements were in care of
