It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Nellie Harshenin of Ootischenia on Sunday, April 12, 2009. Nellie was born on May 17, 1927 in Ootischenia, BC to Tom and Aksenia Stoochnoff.
She is survived by her children Robert (Betty) Harshenin of Ootischenia, Mary (John) Nesteroff of South Slocan, Tim (Vita) Harshenin of Kamloops and Karen (Lawrence) Makortoff of Creston, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
On behalf of the family, we wish to thank the relatives and friends for their love and support in our time of need. Special thanks to Dr. Vasil and the wonderful staff at Castleview for their superb caregiving.
Heartfelt thanks to the singers, cooks, grave diggers, Peter Zaytsoff for leading the funeral services, the Kootenay men’s group for their superior craftsmanship in making the coffin, people that brought baking, flowers, donations and cards and to the staff at Castlegar Funeral Home for their excellent service.
Nellie will be sadly missed but not forgotten. May God accept her into His Heavenly Kingdom. May she rest in peace.
A poem written by Nellie’s Granddaughter Lena Makortoff:
Remember the good times
and not the bad
when you think of me, smile
but don't be sad
Know that I'm here
as a memory in your hearts
this isn't where it ends
it's only where it starts
I know at this moment
you are all filled with sorrow
but these clouds are behind us
seek the sun in tomorrow
I don't want you to mourn
so wipe away that tear
I don't want you to worry
let those worries disappear
I want you to know
that my love for you lives on
though my body got tired
my soul will stay strong
