Nicholas Jonah Carlson, age 29, passed away suddenly on Friday, February 16th in Trail, B.C.

Nicholas  was born in the Nelson Hospital on Dec. 13, 1988 to Scott Carlson and Christa Brakmann. He grew up in the Slocan Valley, where he attended the Vallican Whole School, Brent Kennedy, Mount Sentinel and the W.E. Graham Outdoor Wilderness Program. 

In his early years, Nicholas loved hiking, camping, biking, skiing and swimming. He continued his active outdoor lifestyle by treeplanting with various companies until he was diagnosed with schizophrenia in his early twenties. Life became a struggle for his remaining years.  

Nicholas is survived by his parents, Christa and Scott, sisters Becky and Alyssa (Dave) and baby Samuel; his Oma, aunts, uncles and cousins in Germany and the U.S.  

Special thanks to the various social services that helped. 

A celebration honouring Nicolas will be held at the Vallican Whole Community Centre in the Slocan Valley on Sunday, March 18th at 2 p.m.

Donations in his memory can be made to Our Daily Bread (Nelson) or the Salvation Army's 'Kate's Kitchen' (Trail).
