March 10, 1944 - April 5, 2024
In loving memory ~
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paul G. Markin of Castlegar on April 5th, 2024. He and his wife, Marilyn, were to have been in Australia for the month of March visiting family, but life took a different turn and he passed away at the Kelowna General Hospital after a brief and sudden illness.
Trucking was a common thread throughout all of Paul's working life. Early in his career, he worked for Public Freightways and then in the early 1970's, he started his own company (Trans-X). This led to many other avenues, including road building, paving, maintaining roads and even owning his own asphalt plant. In addition, he was involved in dam and bridge building and he worked on the tugs on the Arrow Lakes at one time. He was always involved with machinery, either on his own or in partnership with his brother, George. Together they took on many contracts within the province. And of course, in his "retirement" years, he started Kootenay Containers, Sales and Rentals.
He wore many hats and was the ultimate and resourceful businessman. His hospitality was renowned. Paul always went out of his way to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable, anywhere.
Paul leaves behind his wife, Marilyn and his children: Jason (Aneta), Colin (Lisa), Vernon, Megan (Adri), Paul (Katie) and Dan (Kitu). He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. He also leaves behind his sister, Joyce (Tom) Idle, his sister-in-law, Christine Markin, his brother-in-law, Fred (Pam) Fominoff, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, George and Laura, and by his older brother, George. Paul was blessed with a large and loving family.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Brilliant Cultural Centre.
