May 9, 1934 - April 16, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Paul Rilkoff on April 16, 2021 at his home in Shoreacres, BC.
Paul was born on May 9, 1934 in Shoreacres to parents Gaston and Dora. He married Anne Conkin on July 28, 1956. Paul and Anne started their marriage in South Slocan where they were raising 2 children. In 1968, the couple relocated their family to Shoreacres.
Paul started driving truck at a very young age with his father, eventually becoming a member of the Teamsters Local 213. He worked on several construction projects, including Hugh Keenleyside and Mica Creek Damsites.
Since driving logging trucks was his passion, he became a self-employed log truck contractor in 1976, working until 1999.
Paul was an avid fisherman in his younger years. Many weekends with his wife were spent in the Lardeau and Nakusp areas successfully fishing for dolly varden. He used to tie his own bucktail jigs which were very popular among the local fishermen. Later on he enjoyed fishing on his boat at the coast with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Paul was also a huge hockey fan. Watching and going to some Oilers and Canucks games. Also, becoming a fan of watching and following his grandsons growing up playing hockey.
The one thing that never got old was going to the casino. Whether it was in the Okanagan or across the line to visit our southern neighbours. Paul enjoyed playing the slot machines. Though we never heard much about the unlucky trips. We surely did hear about the ones where he was a winner.
Paul is survived by his sisters Anne Chernenkoff and Mary (Peter Konkin), sister in law Rose Rilkoff, son Ron (Sherry Crawford), daughter Sharon (Rick Hlookoff), grandchildren Justin Rilkoff (Jaspreet), Sarah Rilkoff (Elliot), Tanner Hlookoff (Karleigh), Tyler Hlookoff (Kara), five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Paul was predeceased by his wife Anne in 2002 and brother Alec in 2006.
The family would to extend a heartfelt thanks to the Tarry's First Responders for all their assistance. A special thank you to Bill Strilaeff and the Castlegar Funeral Chapel for all the support, guidance and compassion during this difficult time.
Our father, grandfather and great grandfather will sadly be missed and fondly remembered.
We love you Dad.
