POLLY N. BARABANOFF


BARABANOFF: Polly Barabanoff of Nelson passed away peacefully on April 17, 2009 at the Nelson Kootenay Lake Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer for 10 years.

Polly was born at Thrums, BC on August 14, 1932 into the family of Nick M. and Vera A. Postnikoff. She was a third child of four children.

Polly grew up in Thrums, here she met her future husband, Fred W. Barabanoff and they were married in 1951. They were blessed with four children, Steve, Clarence, Deborah and Paul. They lived in Thrums until 1959, then moved and made their home at Beasley, BC until 1987 when Polly moved to Nelson. Fred and Polly legally separated in 1995.

Polly met Pete Stoopnikoff in 2001.

Polly loved to cook sew, quilt and grow a garden; she also loved to read books. Polly traveled to Philippines, Uruguay, Mexico, Australia and Hawaii and with her partner Pete spent many winters in Arizona.

She was predeceased by her father Nick M. in 1982, her mother Vera A. in 1989 and by her brother Nick N. in 1996.

Polly leaves behind to mourn, her partner of 8 years Pete Stoopnikoff, her son Steve with wife Pam, her son Clarence with wife Donna, her daughter Debbie with husband Nicolas Sorokin, her son Paul with wife Natalie, her sister Mary Postnikoff, her sister Vera with husband Sam Verigin, 15 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, many nephews, nieces and friends.

Polly’s home was always open, her gardens were beautiful, and her positive attitude towards life carried on right to her final days.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 24, 2009 from 7:00 to 9:00PM from the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd., 613 Ward Street, Nelson, BC and continue on Saturday, April 25, 2009 from 10:00AM to Noon. Interment will follow at the Krestova Cemetery.

As an expression of sympathy family and friends may make donations to the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation, 3 View Street, Nelson, BC V1L 2V1.

Arrangements are under the direction of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd.
