June 30, 1934 - February 9, 2020
Mom has left a legacy of love and family. She was born in South Slocan June 30, 1934 and passed away peacefully February 9, 2020 (age 85). She married Mitchel Peter Chernoff in 1955 and they were blessed with four children. Family was of the utmost importance to mom. The Christina Lake property was a gathering place for friends and the extended family which Mom affectionately referred to as "The Happiest Place on Earth".
During Mom's many careers she managed the Eaton's order office, trained as a legal secretary and worked for Queen's Counsel. With her charming personality, inclusivity, and genuine love of people, she was appointed Marriage Commissioner and performed hundreds of marriages.
During the past two years, mom loved being part of the amazing and vibrant community at Castlewood Village. We are most thankful for the support and gentleness offered by the Staff and Residents. Thank you to the exceptional doctors Merritt and Makwati for their many years of loving care provided to mom. We are forever grateful to you.
Mom was generous, kind and made everyone she encountered feel loved and respected. Mom loved being a Baba and great Baba, and was always there to support her loved ones. Her ability to befriend anyone or strike up a conversation or provide a listening ear were her special gifts. She leaves behind many life long friends and family that she so loved.
Thank you to all the friends and family who have supported our family. We are blessed to have your all in our lives. Mom was predeceased by parents: John and Mary, her brother Peter Nevakshonoff (Lucille), and husband Mitchel Chernoff.
Survived by sons, Ronald (Christine) and Kenneth (Marcella), daughters Cynthia Baker (Daryl) and Beverley Chernoff and their families.
Mom set a high standard of giving back to her community by passionately volunteering with members of the Castlegar & District Hospital Auxiliary for over 50 years; as well as serving as a director for the Castlegar & District Hospital Foundation. In remembrance of our Mom please consider volunteering in your community, making a donation or performing a random act of kindness.
Castlegar Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements. A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2020.
