It is with great sadness the Rainbow family of Castlegar is announcing the passing of Richard (Rick) Nelson Rainbow. Rick passed away on September 24th, 2021 in the Trail Hospital while recuperating from surgery at the age of 78.
Rick was born on January 5th, 1943 in New Westminster, BC where he started his life-long career as an entrepreneur. As a young boy he would row his boat out to the fishing trawlers where the fishermen would give him fish which he would sell door to door He went on to raise budgies in the family basement which he would sell to Woolworths. In his teens he purchased a television tube tester and tubes to place in a drug store for tv repair.
Rick studied tv repair in 1961 . He went to work after high school and one year of electronics and moved to Vernon where he worked for Interior Electronics. He later became a partner in SK Electronics in Nelson and was dubbed Master of the Soft Sell.
Rick was a former officer with the Castlegar Legion and the treasurer of the Anglican church for a number of years. He was a 13 year survivor of cancer and belonged to a support group helping newly diagnosed patients.
Rick enjoyed attending Trail hockey games, all sports, walking his beloved dogs and maintaining his beautiful home. He was an avid reader and loved all types of music.
Rick was predeceased by his parents Nelson and Verna Rainbow, and his sister Shannon Airlie. He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 34 years Jean Haukaas Rainbow, two step-sons Darren and Ron and his brother in law Don Airlie, numerous in-laws and half cousins.
