The family of Richard “Rick” Pongracz are saddened to announce his passing on July 9, 2012.

 

Rick was born in Prince Rupert BC (May 2, 1948) ~ but for most of his life, Castlegar was his home.

 

He is survived by his former wife; Jeannie; children Tamara (Richard); Nathan (Lora) and granddaughter Eden.  His son Darcy, his sisters Sandra and Margaret and his parents predeceased Rick.

 

He leaves behind his siblings Edward, Joanne, Donald, Elizabeth, Barbara, and Leslie.  His in-laws Katie & Dino Zanet, Olga Standidge, Ed & Lori Rilkoff numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews. He was very much loved.

 

Rick was a Plumber/Pipefitter/School Board Trustee/Union Organizer and Plumbers Local 170 Health, Welfare & Pension Administrator where he earned the distinguished Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) credential from Dalhousie University.

 

He was a strong & determined advocate of labour & humanitarian rights and equality.  Rick had many comrades in the Kootenays who always commented on his polite, respectful demeanor. Rick was a long time donor to Amnesty International.

 

A private, quiet cremation was held on July 17, 2012 with his family present.  He will be forever missed and remembered.
