Sam Claire Hague

June 8, 2021

March 20, 1934 - June 8, 2021
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Sam Hague at the age of 87. Sam was born in Whiskey Gap, Alberta to Benjamin and Fern Hague. Growing up, Sam's family moved to various places, following his father's work as a heavy equipment operator.
He met Audrey Cole in Calgary. The happy couple married on April 5, 1958. Sam decided moving around was no way to raise children. In 1959 he purchased property in Fairview Subdivision, and began building his home that he lived in for the rest of his days.
As a heavy equipment operator, he spent his days working hard on various road and dam building projects, including the Blueberry Paulson, Salmo-Creston and Hugh Keenleyside Dam.
In the early 80's he purchased two graders and started Sam's Custom Grading. Sam finally retired in 1994. He and Audrey enjoyed countless camping trips exploring Canada and the U.S.A.
After Audrey passed away in 2001, he was content to live in the home he built, hosting many family reunions in his beautiful yard.
Sam will be forever remembered by his siblings Mae Ross and Larry Hague; son Dan Hague, son- in-law Leo Byra; Grandchildren Joshua Byra, Sandy Hague, Shawn Hague and Colleen Hay; Great- Grandchildren Weston Hague, Mason Hay and Gunnar Hague; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Predeceased by his parents, Benjamin and Fern Hague; his wife Audrey; sister Marie Hall and daughter Debbie Byra.
A funeral was held on June 19, 2021. Sam was laid to rest with his beloved wife. A special thanks to Jean Thorne for all the years of friendship and care. Also, a big thank you to Janice Byra for stepping up and helping Sam during his time of need. Thank-you to the LDS Church, Castlegar Funeral Chapel and all the friends and family that have supported us through this difficult time.
