Nov 17, 1934 - Jan 10, 2018
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father and grandfather, Steve J. Malloff.  With his family by his side, Steve passed away quietly on January 10, 2018 at Castleview Care Centre.

Steve was born on November 17, 1934 in a Doukhobor village in Grand Forks, B.C. to John and Pauline (Novokshonoff) Malloff. He fondly recalls his youthful years of growing up in a communal setting.  His love for the Russian language, community, family and Doukhobor life concept influenced him later in life to become a Russian language teacher, to be a key contributing member of the USCC and to be a great role model for his four children.

In 1958, Steve met his future wife, Irene Anutooshkin.  They were married for 57 years and were blessed with four children - Tamara, Yev, Nikita and Natasha.

Steve spent 34 years of his teaching career in Grand Forks.  In 1959, he was the first teacher to teach Russian in the Grand Forks Secondary School.  Steve took a major role in helping to institute Russian language instruction into the public school system. Since 1976, Russian has been part of the regular school curriculum in Grand Forks, Castlegar and Nelson School Districts.  Steve took Russian language students on  two week tours of the Soviet Union every two years.

When Steve joined the USCC Video Club, he found his second most rewarding job as a volunteer.  Since the late 1970's the Video Club has filmed almost every Doukhobor event in Western Canada. Steve was largely responsible for editing these programs.  It was Steve's hope that all the recordings would become a legacy as part of the Castlegar Public Library video archives.

Family was always an important priority in Steve's and Irene's life.  When they were blessed with their five beautiful grandchildren they spent many wonderful times with them.  They moved from Grand Forks to Castlegar in 2005 to be near them. These were very rewarding, enjoyable and happy years.

Steve is predeceased by his mother, Pauline (Novokshonoff), father, John Malloff and an infant brother, Peter.

He is survived by his wife, Irene; children Tamara Malloff (Robert Price), Yev Malloff (Fay Carlson), Nikita (Taresa) Malloff, and Natasha Malloff; grandchildren Lena, Bensen, Marisa Price and Tia, Niko Malloff; step grandchildren Sasha, Max and Roma Podovinikoff; and his brother John (Maggie) Malloff and family.

Our deepest gratitude goes out to the Castleview Care Centre staff, and Dr. L. Vasil for the excellent care provided to Steve. A special thank you to the staff of the Castlegar Funeral Chapel and to officiant Peter Zaytsoff for the gentle guidance we received.

Thank you to all our kind members of our USCC community: to Bill Popoff,  the psalm singers, Brilliant cooking group, the servers, the cemetery workers and all who helped with the setup of tables and chairs.  A special thank you to JJ Verigin, Laura and family for all your loving words.

Our heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of food, flowers, visits and messages of condolence from family, friends and community.

Steve has fulfilled many of his dreams, and has led a rewarding life with his career, hobbies and interests, family legacy and deep roots in his Doukhobor heritage and Russian language.  He will be deeply and sincerely missed.  May Steve rest in peace in God's Heavenly Kingdom.
