January 7, 1953 - December 22, 2021
Jerry passed away suddenly on December 22, 2021. Jerry was born in Trail on January 7, 1953 and spent his early years on the family farm in Fruitvale. In his teen years, he spent his summers in the Okanagan helping his relatives in the orchards.
Jerry was a Sheet Metal Journeyman by trade and worked on many construction projects throughout the East and West Kootenays and on Vancouver Island.
Jerry was a devoted husband and father and ensured that both his children received a higher education as well as the basics of life, although some of his financial lessons would put a damper on college life.
Jerry was a builder of things, lover of foods, and an avid gardener. He could make anything and did it himself whether it be pouring concrete, building structures or restoring his vintage car. His ingenuity to create out of spare parts was amazing to observe. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others with repairs, projects or advice.
After retirement, he loved to spend time in his backyard and garage. He would spend hours with the radio blasting and him banging around in his garage. He was creating his own little orchard in the backyard and ever enlarging the vegetable and flower gardens.
Despite recent health challenges he loved to mow the lawn on his riding lawnmower and that is how we will remember him - driving that lawnmower as if it were a race car and the lawn was a race track, with the wind the blowing in his hair.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 45 years Deborah, daughter Kristy (David), daughter-in-law Suzanne, brother Don (Chris), sisters Darlene and Gwen, sisters-in-law Marianne and Dorothy (Barry), mother-in-law Dorothy McNee and many nieces and nephews. Jerry was predeceased by his son James, brother Danny, and parents Al and Lori Hubscher. We will miss him dearly and his departure has left a huge hole in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
