Vera Ann Woykin

Vera Ann Woykin was born in the Nelson Hospital on April 8, 1945 to her parents, Fred and Vera Sookorukoff. Vera grew up with her parents and her half siblings on her father's side - Pauline, Bill, and Fred.

Vera met and fell in love with Cyril Woykin while living in Grand Forks.  They were married in Castlegar on November 27, 1971 and bought a home in the Raspberry Village by the ferry where they lived for ten years. In 1981 they bought a new home on Pass Creek Road and have lived there until the present time.

Vera belonged to many USCC committees including Kootenay Ladies committee, Brilliant cooking group, Brilliant bread group, and Director of the Doukhobor Discovery Centre. She was also a key organizer in Expo 1986 & later participated in the Heritage choir, cutting an album and again looking after the books and tapes.   

Vera enjoyed downhill and cross-country skiing, hiking and camping together with her family. Both Vera and Cyril loved traveling and took their family to Disneyland.

During her free time, she went golfing with Cyril and enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing and needle point embroidery.

Vera was predeceased by her parents Fred and Vera Sookorukoff, half-sister Pauline Berekoff, half-brother Bill Sookorukoff, and half-brother Fred Creig.

She is survived by her husband Cyril, daughter Lisa Woykin, son Shaun Woykin & two grandchildren Mischa and Kalina Sawchuk as well as her relatives and friends.

A sincere thank you to Dr. Smart and the medical staff and caregivers at the hospitals in Trail, Castlegar and Kelowna. Much thanks as well to all the friends and relatives that came by, visited and brought food during her illness. Vera passed away quietly at the Trail Regional Hospital on June 4, 2018.

May she rest in peace in God's Heavenly Kingdom.
