August 25, 1928 - March 27, 2020
It is with deepest sorrow that the family of Vera Zaytsoff announces her peaceful passing into God's Heavenly Kingdom on March 27th, 2020. Vera was born in
Ootischenia, B.C. on August 25th, 1928 to her parents, Nastia and Sam Kabatoff with Vera being the youngest of six children in the family. On January 28th, 1950 she married Mike Zaytsoff of Pass Creek and together, they raised three children - daughters, Gloria and Betty and a son, Harvey.
Vera spent the majority of her life living in Castlegar where her children were raised. She loved gardening and spent good portions of every summer tending to her large garden which she harvested and preserved for the family to enjoy each winter. After Mike's early passing in 1975, Vera began a career as a Homemaker to help support her family and first learned to drive at the age of 47. She was well known to be a hardworker and through those, at times difficult years and beyond, Vera never failed to be kind, generous and loving to her family and others.
In her retirement years, Vera enjoyed travelling, gardening, and both playing her favorite card games and going on daily walks with her Castlegar friends. In 2010, Vera moved to Abbotsford where she lived with her daughter, Betty and her family for several years where she continued her love of gardening on a smaller scale. Vera's last few years were spent living peacefully at the MSA Seniors Manor in Abbotsford until her passing.
Vera leaves behind to mourn her passing - daughters Gloria Zaytsoff (husband Greg) and Betty Riebalkin (husband Pat); one granddaughter - Lauren Zhukrovsky and her daughter Stella; one grandson Nolan Riebalkin; her three surviving nieces - Ann Zaytsoff, Florence Swetlikoff and Elenor Repin; and several great nieces and nephews.
Vera was predeceased by her parents Nastia and Sam Kabatoff, husband Mike, dearest son Harvey, and all five of her siblings - sister Helen Poohachoff and four brothers - Pete, Bill, Sam and Mike, as well as, nephews - Pat Kabatoff, Peter and Mike Poohachoff, and niece Tannis Zoobkoff.
Vera's burial will take place on a date yet to be determined at the Ooteshenia Cemetery in Castlegar with a lunch to follow.
Words cannot describe how much our family will miss our dearest Mother (Baba).
May you rest in peace. We take great solace knowing that you have been re-united with our brother and uncle Harvey (Havka), and that you will be looking after each other forever more.
