With heavy hearts, we are announcing the passing of our father, grandfather, brother, uncle, Virgilio De Sousa on September 21st, 2023, at the age of 81 years.
Born in Vila Franca Do Campo, Sao Miguel, Azores on June 21st, 1942 to Virgilio and Esciolinda De Sousa. Virgilio was the only son of eight siblings.
Virgilio grew up in Vila Franca and at the young age of 19 immigrated to Canada in 1962.
Virgilio married the love of his life, Maria De Sousa (nee Pimentel) in 1964. They were blessed with two children, Robert and Delia.
Virgilio was employed at Westar/Interfor sawmill for 45 years before retiring. Virgilio was a skilled gardener who took pride in his yard, especially his lawn as well as an avid fisherman in the local river and surrounding lakes.
Although a Canadian citizen, Virgilio always remembered his homeland and traveled with Maria back to the Azores Islands many times including on their 50th wedding anniversary to Madeira, Lisbon and Spain.
Left to mourn are his wife of 59 years, Maria De Sousa, son Robert De Sousa ( Leanne ), daughter Delia Schuepfer (Jeff), grandchildren, Alyssa, Jakob and Linsey, five sisters, many nieces and nephews. Virgilio was preceded by his parents and two of his sisters.
A funeral service was held on Thursday, September, 28th 2023 at St. Rita's Catholic Church followed by his final resting place at Kinnaird Park Memorial Cemetery.
