In Loving Memory ~
On Wednesday, September 13, 2023, Walter J. Popoff passed away peacefully at the age of 84, surrounded by his family, at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital.
To cherish his many memories, Walter leaves behind his loving wife Mae, son Randy, daughter Karen and husband Lorne Swetlikoff, his grandchildren Kyle, Katarina, Ella and Ava, sister Mary and husband Bill Argatoff, twin brother John Popoff, sister-in-laws Doris Sookaveiff, and Laverne Semenoff and husband Sam, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Walter was dedicated to his family and always present to guide, play, and support his children and grandchildren. He performed construction work in the electrical trade for 40 years and was fortunate to spend many of his working years in the West Kootenay area working on the construction of the hydroelectric dams.
As a skilled outdoor enthusiast, Walter led many adventures with family and friends. He also enjoyed engaging in discussions on global and social topics where he held forward-looking views anchored in his values of fairness and acceptance. Walter embraced the Doukhobor culture and lived by the principle of Toil and Peaceful life.
Walter was predeceased by his parents John and Tina Popoff, in-laws Peter and Elsie Relkoff, brother and sister-in-law Serge and Elizabeth Popoff, sister-in-law Polly Popoff, niece Lisa Popoff, and brother-in-law Peter Sookaveiff.
Funeral services were held at the Brilliant Cultural Centre. The family wishes to thank all who attended and supported the service as well as the many people who provided support, love, and care through what has been a most difficult time.
The family also thanks Dr. Janet Fisher for her attentive and compassionate care of Walter over the years. Thank you as well to the Castlegar Home Support Team for their assistance.
