May 11, 2019
Walter Soroka, my father, left us peacefully May 11, 2019 to embark upon his next journey. I envision him paddling his treasured canoe down another beautiful river, hiking another unexplored trail or maybe simply enjoying a glass of wine on board his sailboat while playing guitar once again with his friends.
Born in Saskatchewan to George and Victoria Soroka, dad grew up in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, where his heart forever remained. He treasured memories of family and friends throughout his life. Dad was pre-deceased by sisters Anna and Katherine and brother Peter, as well as his parents.
He was a mentor to many, especially through twenty-five years leading his Scout Troops, giving back to his community through Soup Kitchens, youth drop-in centers, Kiwanis Club and through his contribution to the Grand Valley Trails Association, dad set an example and a high standard for all of us. We're grateful to him for that and will honour his memory by continuing his legacy.
A scientist by training, he was a successful consultant in the Canadian Packaging industry, advising businesses and also teaching in Canada, the United States and China and author of major packaging text books.
True to form, he fought valiantly through his recent declining health, continuing to recount his many stories of his travels and exploits.
Words are not enough to adequately express my gratitude to Dr. Ankenbauer, and also the staff at Caslteview Care Centre for your wonderful care of dad. You are all amazing and just simply the best!! I know he thanks you for all those hugs, and the wonderful dances! I'd like to thank family and friends especially Laurie and Steve for all their support.
There will be a Celebration of Walter's Life at a later date in Niagara-on- the-Lake.
Castlegar Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
