Feb 17, 1935 - Feb 26, 2018
Walter was born to William and Mary Chernoff on February 17, 1935 in Perry Siding, British Columbia. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side. Walter was predeceased by his parents, his brothers Nick, Bill (at age 10), Peter and sister Polly (both in infancy).

Walter grew up in Perry Siding. His first job was at Hamilton store at the age of 13. The owner would listen to hockey games on the radio and this was the start of Walter's love of hockey and his loyalty to the Toronto Maple Leafs. This loyalty was passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Go Leafs Go!

As a young man he worked in logging and in the Okanagan picking cherries and working in the packing house. In Penticton he met Vera Bidinoff who became his loving wife of 60 years. They married in 1957. The couple lived in Perry Siding and Vancouver and finally made their home in Crescent Valley in 1964. It was also that year Walter found employment with the Celgar Saw Mill whom he worked for until his retirement at age 60. In 2012, Walter and Vera moved to Stellar Place in Castlegar.

During their life together Walter and Vera had four children; Sherry (Neil), Warren (Sue), Carey (Terry) and Nadine. Walter and Vera were blessed with five grandchildren; Logan, Taya, Bryden, Oshiana Krisha and Fayth Destynea and two great grandchildren Mila and Maxamillion.

Walter was an intelligent and talented man, a "jack of all trades" who always helped his family and friends. If you needed help fixing something you'd phone 1-800 " DAD". He provided valuable advice to his children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces, neighbours and friends.

Walter enjoyed gardening, camping, hockey, fixing things and time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He supported his family's extracurricular activities and was always a proud cheerleader. Walter and Vera fulfilled their bucket list and travelled to Hawaii, the Grand Ole Opry and Mexico in their retirement.

His family was grateful to celebrate his 83rd birthday with him. Walter was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by many.
