Festive frenzy holds its charm

Editorial comment focuses on the positives associated with the holiday season

Pressure can only get to us if we let it. When we’re in control it’s actually fun!

The most common kind of pressure in a benign environment like the one we’re lucky enough to live in, this week, at least, is the list of gifts and social functions many are busy trying to complete.

But we come out ahead if all entries get checked off, and if not, the sun will still rise tomorrow. One thing we won’t have to worry about this time is the postcard-perfect scenery.

The best thing about Christmas is that it’s not just the king of all spending opportunities. The gift-giving, commercial aspect is not likely to change anytime soon, but it’s not hard to see past the “blowouts” to what is truly rewarding, if a person only tries.

What’s good is the way people are more likely to treat each other at this time of year... to express best wishes, and maybe even do an extra good deed or two for their neighbours, or complete strangers.

History tells us that anything can happen to anyone at anytime in this world, and all we can do is take the most basic precautions. But during the month of December there is a definite air of compassion present. Whatever a person’s personal beliefs, they can notice and take part in that pool of human kindness.

The very best wishes to you, from all of us at the Castlegar News.
