Foundation's post-launch summary

Community-minded outfit is officially up and running, ready to carry out its mission

On behalf of the Community Foundation of Castlegar and District, I would like to thank you and reporter Betsy Kline for the coverage of our recent launch.

It was well-attended, and I believe your story has had an impact beyond those who attended.

For those who may have missed an important point: the Foundation is now prepared to receive grant applications from community organizations that qualify.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 16. They can be emailed to me as attachments at rsjjackson@shaw.ca, or sent by Canada Post to P.O. Box 3725, Castlegar V1N 3W4.

Application details and forms are available on our website: http://www.communityfoundationofcastlegar.org

There is also a helpful Application Guide that includes information about the Canada Revenue Agency rules that restrict who we can give money to. Prospective applicants should read it carefully.

The amount of money to be granted this year is not large, but as the years go by, we intend it to grow.

It is equally important to note that everybody can help the grant money grow by contributing to the Foundation’s community fund, which is the permanent fund that we invest to provide future grants. For a limited time, donations from the community can be used to qualify for a matching grant from Columbia Basin Trust.

The Foundation is a CRA-registered charity, and a member of the Community Foundations of Canada (www.cfc-fcc.ca), and donors will receive tax receipts.
