This headline: "Conservation officers killed 33 bears in West Kootenay-Boundary in 2024" is absolutely appalling. It's especially appalling because organic waste collection in our area was voted down (I live in Robson). There are stats that show organic waste collections decrease the number of bear/human interactions because they aren't drawn to our garbage. I do at least keep my organic waste in the freezer now, year round, because of the local four-legged rat problem.
