On March 2 and 3, Selkirk College 2SLGBTQIA+ Student Alliance, the Mir Centre and Castlegar Pride hosted two screenings of the film Queering the Interior, one at the Mir Centre and one at the Castle Theatre. Along with the film, there were discussions following both screenings and a youth pizza party at the Castle Theatre event. Both screenings and the pizza party were well attended and very well received, with over 100 Castlegar and area community members present to take in this cinematic snapshot of local queer history.

The organizers would like to thank everyone who made this great event a success. The event started as a vision of two members of the Selkirk 2SLGBTQIA+ Student Alliance and a faculty mentor, and it grew into a community gathering with resources and sponsorship from both the college and the community.

In addition to spearheading by the Selkirk College School of University Arts and Sciences coordinator in partnership with Castlegar Pride and with assistance and support from the Mir Centre, these events also received funding through an internal student leadership grant. However, this uplifting event was entirely made possible through the generosity and support of the Castlegar community. Castlegar Sunrise Rotary and Kootenay Savings Credit Union both provided generous donations, for which we are grateful. Humble Bean Coffee Co. was a big supporter. The SOGI club at Stanley Humphries helped support the youth pizza party. Tammy and Lowell at the Castle Theatre created a welcoming and supportive space for us to hold our event. We would also like to thank all the youth workers, teachers, parents and caregivers who made it possible for so many young people to attend.

Given the success of the events, we look forward to more youth and adult events that promote visibility of and support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community in on campus and in Castlegar.

Sincerely,

Selkirk College 2SLGBTQIA+ Student Alliance & School of University Arts and Sciences, the Mir Centre and Castlegar Pride
