I want to congratulate a hard-working group of volunteers, led by someone called Darlene Kalawsky, for the stunning displays of flowers around Castlegar.

My friend and I came over to Castlegar from Nelson, primarily to do the Sculpturewalk (an inspired project which is also going from strength to strength). We couldn’t help but notice the terrific floral displays everywhere downtown. Aside from the garden beds, the abundance of hanging baskets and planters, all blooming profusely, are well worth a separate trip just for the pleasure of walking around town.

I had just finished commenting that Castlegar puts Nelson’s neglected downtown garden beds to absolute shame when we encountered a gardening volunteer hard at work. Congratulations, Castlegar and your community-minded citizens!
