Castlegar youth bowling teams to compete in nationals

Castlegar bowlers are heading to the Youth Bowling National Championships in Ottawa and Gatineau this upcoming weekend.

The athletes include the Bantam Girls Team, comprised of Sophie Smith and Kloe Kristian (coached by Shelly Stoushnow), while the Senior Girls Team includes Brianna Zoobkoff & Morgan Stoutenburg (coached by Brenda Zoobkoff).

The girls have been working hard practicing and raising money for their exciting trip, and have received amazing support from the community.

The Castlegar youth bowling program has been quite successful in the past sending teams & singles to nationals, however, it’s notable that two teams are going this year.

The teams will be bowling a Triple Round Robin bowling against every other team in their field 3 times for a total of 21 games over the 3 day tournament. The event is conducted as a Match Play event with one point awarded per team for the win, 1/2 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. The team winning the most points in the tournament will be presented with the Gold Medal.

For those of you who are interested, you can follow the Youth Bowling Nationals on their website at www.ybcnationalsyouthbowl.ca
