BC Summer Games finish up, Castlegar athletes compete hard

The BC Summer Games have wrapped up for another year. The games were in Surrey this year and finished up on Sunday.

Several Castlegar and area athletes got the opportunity to go up against the best competition in the province.

Tyler Hartleb competed in shot put, discus, and javelin. In the shot put, Hartleb had a score of 7.01. I the javelin competition, Hartleb placed 17th with a score of 20.82. In the discus event, Hartleb placed 15th with a score of 20.74.

In swimming, Tenysha Ross- Van Mierlo placed 26th in Heat 1 of the Girls 100M Breaststroke, 44th in the Girls 200M Freestyle, and 33rd in Heat 1 of the Girls 200M Backstroke. Gabrielle Hanvold finished 22nd the final standings of the Girls 400M IM, 10th in the preliminary round of the Girls 200M Butterfly, and 46th in the preliminary round of the Girls 50M Freestyle.

The Kootenay boys baseball team, with Castlegar's Drake Voykin, finished 6th, losing 11-4 in the 5th place game.

The Kootenay boys soccer team, with Josh Fogal, Castlegar's  finished 7th with a 3-1 win in their final game.

 

Vancouver Island-Central Coast won the medal count with 101 total medals including 38 golds. Fraser Valley came second with 94 medals and 34 golds. Kootenay finished 7th with 14 medals including two golds.
