Ryan Edwards and the Beaver Valley Nitehawks coasted to a 7-2 victory on Thursday night over the Castlegar Rebels to go up 2-0 in their best-of-seven Neil Murdoch division semifinal.

The Castlegar Rebels couldn’t keep pace with the Beaver Valley Nitehawks on Thursday as the Hawks soared to a 7-2 victory at the Hawks Nest to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven Neil Murdoch division semifinal.

Dallas Calvin netted four points, and Dan Holland pitched in with a pair of goals as the Hawks spotted the Rebels a one-goal lead early, but replied with three quick markers by Braden Fuller, Calvin, and Holland in the final three minutes of the period to take a 3-1 lead into the second.

Castlegar’s Connor Beauchemin would cut the lead to two, but Holland and Calvin would answer again to put the Hawks up 5-2. Taylor Stafford would make it 6-2, netting his third point of the night, 48 seconds into the third period, and Kyle Hope would round out the scoring, taking a nice drop-pass from Sam Swanson and wiring it by Nate Rabbitt who came on in relief of Patrick Zubic at 17:53 of the final frame.

Grayson Sharpe would get the win in net as the Nitehawks outshot the Rebels 48-24 and were 1-for-4 on the power play, while Castlegar went 1-for-3.

The Hawks will look to go up 3-0, while the Rebels will try to get back on track in Game 3 tonight at 7:30 p.m. at the Castlegar Rec Complex.
