Castlegar skaters earn 7 medals at Fernie competition

East Kootenay Invitational held at the Fernie Memorial Arena Jan. 20 - 22

The Castlegar Skating Club brought home seven medals from the 2023 East Kootenay Invitational held at the Fernie Memorial Arena Jan. 20 – 22.

More than 180 skaters from B.C. and Alberta attended the much-anticipated competition.

Ten Castlegar figure skaters and two coaches made the journey. Six STAR 4 skaters entered in 12 events combined and together they brought home seven medals.

Sara Hurd earned gold in STAR 4/5 Dance.

Anaya Molitwenik and Ellie Kermode tied for silver in STAR 4 Elements. Tying is a very rare occurrence. In this event gold was awarded and two silver medals were awarded in lieu of a bronze medal placing.

Anaya Molitwenik also earned silver in STAR 4 U13 Freeskate and Ellie Kermode brought home silver in STAR 4 13&O Freeskate.

Payton Fowler earned silver in STAR 5 Artistic, alongside Eva Manaigre who earned bronze.

Ribbons were awarded to:

Emmie Nicol: STAR 3 Program silver

Rebekah Profili: STAR 2 Program silver as well as Individual Showcase 1 silver

Paisley Shaw: STAR 2 Program bronze

Freya Devine: STAR 2 Program bronze
