It's not often you see a weather delay at a hockey game, but that's part of life in the Kootenays.

Game 4 between the Castlegar Rebels and the Fernie Ghostriders was supposed to get underway at 7:30 p.m. but at the moment the puck was set to drop the visiting team was still en route to the Castlegar Community Complex.

Avalanche control and debris removal closed the Kootenay Pass and forced the Ghostriders' bus to take a detour along Highway 3A and then take the Balfour Ferry to Nelson before finally making their way to Castlegar.

Fans were told the game would be delayed until at least 9:30 p.m.

In the meantime, the Rebels busied themselves practising on the ice in shorts and running shoes.

Barring some other kind of delay, look for coverage of the game at castlegarnews.com early Sunday morning.
