KIJHL - Rebels one win away from division crown

Nitehawks in Castlegar Thursday

The Beaver Valley Nitehawks came out with a much better effort but it still wasn’t enough to slow down the Castlegar Rebels.

The Rebels left Fruitvale with a a 4-3 win and a 3-1 series lead after Game 4 of their Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Neil Murdoch Division final last night.

The teams take their battle down the highway to Castlegar on Thursday night.

Game 6, if necessary, is scheduled for Friday in Fruitvale with Game 7 Saturday in Castlegar.

After Tyler Collins spotted Beaver Valley a 1-0 lead just 26 seconds into the game, the Rebels rebounded with two late power play goals to take a 2-1 lead after the first.

They increased that lead to 4-1 on goals from Taylor Anderson and Jesse Knowler before Ryon Sookro scored his first of two to make it 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Sookro potted his second with five minutes left in regulation time but Castlegar goaltender Alex Ross shut the door the rest of the way.
