Nelson’s Bryan Boyes has been honoured for his work with young golfers.

Boyes was awarded the Jack McLaughlin Junior Golf Leader by the PGA of BC during the association’s annual awards ceremony Oct. 14.

“My focus this year was on promoting and building a future for junior golf in the area,” Boyes said in a statement. “I want the kids in this area to have the exact opportunity to play and have fun at junior golf as I did.”

Boyes, who coaches at Castlegar Golf Club, grew up playing in Balfour and Nelson. He has taught golf at Nelson’s L.V. Rogers Secondary as well as high schools in Los Angeles and Spokane, at Kokanee Springs Resort and at Granite Pointe Golf Club in Nelson.

“The Castlegar Golf Club, our juniors and myself have recently started fundraising for a proposed six-hole short course for the young juniors of Castlegar and the area to enjoy before they graduate to our full-size courses. Juniors are our very bright future in golf.”
