The Selkirk College Saints ran their winning streak to open the 2012/13 season to seven games, topping Thompson Rivers University by a 7-4 score at Kamloops Memorial Arena.

The win was the first-ever by the Saints on the road against TRU.

Selkirk raced out to a 3-1 first period lead on goals by Cody Fidgett, Thomas Hardy and Jackson Garrett. But a weak start to the second period was costly, as the WolfPack fought back to tie the game at 4-4 following a series of defensive letdowns. But despite seeing the momentum swing the way of their hosts, the Saints replied with a pair of goals before intermission on tallies from Kam Crawford and Connor McLaughlin.

The Saints showed a renewed commitment to defenceman in the third period, which remained scoreless until Jordan Wood scored into an empty net with 19 seconds remaining.

"Our first and third periods tonight were very strong but we let our guard down in the second, took some selfish penalties and paid the price against a good team that capitalized on their chances," says Saints head coach Jeff Dubois. "We're pleased with taking two points from a tough road venue and hopefully we learned some lessons in the process."

The Saints now travel to the Lower Mainland to face Simon Fraser University on Saturday night in a match-up between the BCIHL's two remaining unbeaten teams. Faceoff is set for 7:00PM and the game can be viewed online at www.fasthockey.com.
