SHSS Bulldogs finish third at Crowe tournament

The girls basketball team from Stanley Humphries Secondary in Castlegar played at a tournament at J.L. Crowe in Trail this weekend.

The Bulldogs finished third, beating L.V. Rogers 44-20 in the third place game. Rebekah Liszt led SHSS with 19 points.

The girls won their first two games handily, beating Rossland 35-12 and Grand Forks 80-8, on Friday at the eight-team tournament.

In the team's final round-robin game, the Bulldogs had an epic battle with a strong team from Selkirk Secondary School in Kimberley.

SHSS led with a couple of minutes left, but a late rally gave Selkirk the 35-33 win, despite eight points and eight rebounds from grade 10 forward Svetlana Hadikin. Liszt chipped in with 12 points.

 

Mount Baker from Cranbrook, the fifth ranked team in B.C., finished first overall, easily beating Selkirk in the final. J.L. Crowe finished fifth, beating Rossland 46-20 led by 11 points from Gina Oostlander. Grand Forks 2 beat Grand Forks 1 27-26 in the seventh place game.
