Vancouver Island baseball star named player of the year at NCAA Div. 2 school

Brandon Nicoll of Coombs has been named the South Arkansas University Muleriders outstanding baseball player of the year.

The infielder was recently presented the honour at the SAU’s Seventh Annual Mulespy Awards that was held on April 29.

Nicoll is in his junior year with the Muleriders. In three seasons playing NCAA Division 2 baseball, Nicoll has been consistent at bat, averaging .339.

This season, in 46 games in the Great American Conference, Nicoll’s average is .328, recording 58 hits that include 12 home runs, 12 doubles, 41 runs batted in and 41 runs scored.

Among all the Canadians playing in NCAA Div. 2, Nicoll’s home run record this season rank second and is tied for ninth place out of all the Canadian players playing collegiate and university baseball.

Nicoll has also earned a degree at SAU, in Wildlife Conservation Biology. He plans to stay one more year at SAU and will pursue other courses.

He is still uncertain where he will play this summer. Last year, he played for the Nanaimo Owls in the West Coast League.
