Did you know that Castlegar was incorporated as a village in 1946, a town in 1966, and a city in 1974? Approximately 8,000 people live in the city which is situated at the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay rivers.

Edward Mahon named the town after his ancestral home of Castlegar, Ahascragh, County Galway, Ireland in 1897.
