Castlegar residents have an exciting opportunity to apply for small grants to better their neighbourhoods and community.

Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) are available for projects in the Kootenay Boundary.

With over $9,500 in grants available, the program aims to empower residents by providing up to $500 to turn their innovative ideas into impactful projects that drive positive change right in their own backyard.

Trudy Hallam, NSG Coordinator at the Phoenix Foundation of the Boundary Communities emphasizes the program’s role in nurturing community-driven ideas: “Neighbourhood Small Grants offer an exciting opportunity for individuals to grow their ideas without the financial barrier. It’s about fostering a sense of belonging and collaboration within our communities.”

Last year, NSG recipients in the Kootenay Boundary region used the grants for things like educational field trips, grief workshops, painting murals; Diwali celebrations, pumpkin patches, ice cream for seniors and much more.

From sharing a skill by teaching others a new craft to spreading joy through delivering care packages to organizing cultural celebrations, NSG says it welcomes a wide array of ideas aimed at strengthening the fabric of local neighbourhoods.

Applications are open from April 5 to May 10 for the Kootenay Boundary region including Castlegar.
