Council voted to have staff prepare an amended zoning bylaw that would allow for adult day-sitting services as a home occupation permitted use.

The move came after a resident asked the council to have a look at the rules and allow for adult care options similar to daycare options for children.

This type of service primarily serves seniors whose caregivers are taking a break or performing other tasks.

The bylaw amendment will be brought forward at a future public hearing for consideration.

As part of the process, the city can set a limit to the number of persons that could be in care at any time and look at other restrictions similar to in-home children’s daycare rules.

Pedestrian safety awareness

The city will be sponsoring the Celgar Be Seen campaign in the amount of $500 from the 2017 grants budget.

Be Seen is a pedestrian safety awareness campaign that will include radio, newspapers, online media, posters and communications throughout the community and provide a complimentary high-visibility and reflective armbands to community residents. Organizers hope to provide an armband to every student enrolled in the Castlegar area before Halloween.

2018 Budget meeting schedule

Council has already started plans for the 2018 budget setting two public meetings, one on Oct. 26 and the other in mid-February.
