April 19, 1927 - September 28, 2023

In loving memory ~

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother and friend, Mae Moroso. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at the age of 96 on September 28, 2023.

Mae was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on April 19, 1927, and was the only child of Polly and Frank Holleywood. She immigrated to Canada with her parents as an infant and grew up in Granby, Quebec. Her father, Frank, was a golf professional, and her grandfather was a golf club maker in Scotland in the late 1800s. Not surprisingly, Mae became a champion golfer at an early age. She moved to Vancouver in the 1950s and worked for Canadian Pacific Airlines, where she met and married Paul Moroso. After moving to Castlegar, they started a family and had three children: Greg, Teresa, and Peter.

Mae was involved in many local Castlegar charities and community events. She was an active member of the United Church, volunteered at St. David's Thrift Store for many years, and also organized the local Mobile Mammography Clinic for 25+ years. She was a regular member of the Thursday Women's Bridge Group, but mostly she was a very active member of the Castlegar Golf Club, where she was Women's Club Champion for numerous years.

Mae is survived by her three children, Greg (Patrinna), Teresa (Mike), and Peter (Kam), and her six grandchildren, Chelsey and Scott (Teresa), and Sydney, William, Rebecca, and Sarah (Peter).

The family is especially grateful and would like to acknowledge the staff at both Langley Gardens and Brookside Lodge in Langley, B.C., for their caring and kindness to Mae over the past four years, especially during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic times. We know her smile, humour and friendships will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Castlegar United Church at 809 Merrycreek Road, Castlegar, B.C. The family invites all friends to attend and requests that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the United Church, for which Mae did a great amount of charitable fund-raising.

We love you and miss you, Mom. Your smile and kindness will always be with us. Safe and peaceful journey.
