In Loving Memory ~
It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, husband, brother, and grandfather Stewart Christopher Mason.
Chris passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 29th, 2024 at Kootenay Lake Hospital at the age of 62.
Dad was born and raised alongside his brother Gord in Nelson B.C to their mother Mary Margaret Mason and father Ernest Christopher Mason. It was here in Nelson where dad would go on to meet his wife to be of forty years Mari-Jo Ellen Mason.
Dad graduated from L.V. Rogers Secondary School in 1979 and would go on to begin his long and prosperous career of thirty-five years with the BC Ambulance Service starting with a part-time position in Castlegar BC in 1980. During his time in Castlegar, dad would complete the EMA-1 (Emergency medical Assistance) course.
In 1982 dad moved onto Fort St. James where he would complete the EMA-2 course and start his full-time position with BC Ambulance. It was during his time in Fort St. James where he would marry his high school sweetheart Mari-Jo in 1984 and was accepted into the ALS (Advanced Life Support Program) in Vancouver BC. Dad would graduate at the top of his class and begin his full-time ALS position with BC Ambulance in the Lower Mainland.
During dad's time in Vancouver working all areas of the lower mainland an opportunity presented itself and earned himself a promotion to Unit Chief. Dad proudly accepted the role and would move to Prince George with his wife and two children.
It was during dad's years serving as Unit Chief in Prince George, the opportunity to move back home to the Kootenays and his hometown in Nelson would present itself with an opening for a Unit Chief position in Castlegar BC where he accepted the role and was able to move back home to spend the rest of his career and be closer to his family. Dad would complete his career as Superintendent of the west Kootenay's with the BC Ambulance Service.
Dad was always busy even when not at work helping those who needed it. He always enjoyed spending time with his family, spending summers at the family cabin on Kootenay Lake, Fishing, Bee Keeping, and in his younger years Hunting.
Dad was actively involved with Scouts Canada and was a leader for both Beavers and Cubs. Dad was also involved with the Camp Busk Society here in Nelson, just as his father was before him.
Chris was predeceased by Ernie & Margaret Mason; his father-in-law Allen Jarvis; sister-in-law Vicki Jarvis.
Chris is survived by his Wife Mari-Jo; his two sons Michael, his wife to be Amanda; Peter and wife Emily; his two grandchildren Natalia and Erica; his Brother Gord, wife Karen and their two children Kevin and Kate; his Mother-in-law Pat Jarvis, sister-in-law Sheila Jarvis (Guy), 2 nieces, 1 nephew, his fathers wife Joan and the family pet Rubi the Dog.
Dad's legacy lives on in all our lives and the lives he touched through his many acts of kindness, love, and respect. His spirit will endure and shine forever brightly through those he left behind.
The family would like to thank the tremendous efforts and support of the doctors, nurses and staff of Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital, Kelowna General Hospital and Kootenay Lake Hospital respectively.

Memorial service to be held at the Nelson United Church (602 Silica Street) on Saturday February 24th, 2024 from 11 am-2 pm.
