LETTER: Call to join together and reduce community fire risk

Don Fodor is concerned about Castlegar’s fire risk
web1_letters-ech-lte_1

I am a homeowner on a rented mobile home pad on the bank of the Columbia River in Castlegar and concerned about the risk of fire from many years of accumulation of trees, brush and other ground cover. I am urging citizens and businesses owners to form a citizens’s action group to present this and other future issues to all levels of government for the safety and betterment of our city and us all.

Various groups (armed services, volunteer groups and other citizens) could be deployed for the riverbank and other city landscape fire mitigation with possible funding from governments and other agencies.

Now’s the time in the spring before the oncoming hot summer is upon us. If other countries and societies can build a hospital in a week, we, the citizens of Castlegar, can take on this mission to make ours a safer and more environmentally friendly community.

Remember For McMurray, Lytton, Merry Creek. We can do it.

Don Fodor,

Castlegar, BC
